About Fireproofing

Since early 1970’s Wilkin Insulation has performed as one of the largest and most successful Fireproofing Contractors in the Midwest. Steel frame buildings are protected with fireproof coatings in order to avoid collapse in the event of a high intensity fire. The collapse of the Twin Towers is an example of what will happen if a section of the building’s steel frame becomes to hot.

The application of spray applied fireproofing is a highly specialized and demanding process best left in the hands of professionals. Employees of Wilkin Insulation are fireproofing specialists. Our tradesmen are not drywall installers, painters or insulation installers who occasionally install fireproofing. Our highly trained plasterers, laborers, and carpenters concentrate exclusively on applying fireproofing materials, unlike other companies who perform these services as a secondary trade. Our tradesmen are all highly trained and certified by manufacturers of the products we apply.

We fireproof any type or size of building. From a small 1 day patch and repair job to high rise skyscrapers, our crews are ready and able to take on the task. Our team consists of numerous estimators, sales personnel, project managers, general superintendents and foremen, all trained in the most advanced fireproofing applications. All applications are in accordance with the highest industry standards, and performed under the guidelines of recognized independent testing agencies. Applying fireproofing on 100% of all the structural steel surface area of a fifty story building in a congested city is not recommended for an inexperienced contractor to undertake.

As a nationally recognized expert in our field, Wilkin Insulation Co. is often sought after for code compliance consultation by Architectural and Design firms as well as many General Contractors and Construction Managers.
